Here at Kwatsan Media, we explore the iconography behind our great nation's obsession with the American Indian. Our effigies are used to market sports teams, tobacco, cleaning products, fashion labels (Ralph Lauren, Hustle Gang, Urban Outfitters...), and our influence can be seen at music festivals and in music videos. But what is the story behind the 'PLEASE STAND BY' signal placeholder?
It started in 1938:
Indigenous Peoples are still one of the last secret societies on our planet. We are over 562 Nations strong. We are the direct link to the proud and courageous humans, who (before recorded history) walked, hunted, and lived these lands. There are new archeological findings each and everyday, that prove the existence of our presence dating further and further back into time.

Everyone takes so much influenced by our mere existence, in a society that is just beginning to learn the REAL story of our plight. This isn't a post meant to dwell on the past, as we are busy looking to the future, building stronger communities.
Each nation has its own unique traditions, dress, art, and language, but we are still one people. Be proud of your ancestry and share this random tidbit of American trivia at your next gathering! Be well.
